Wireless 2 GB Secure Digital Card

This highly unusual 2 gb secure digital card combines a flash memory card with wireless Wi-Fi functionality, turning your digital camera into a Wi-Fi camera! Eye-Fi Home Wireless 2 GB Secure Digital Card

What is it? The Eye-Fi Home stores photos just like an ordinary 2 GB SD memory card but it also allows the wireless automatic transfer of photos from your camera to your computer using its built-in Wi-Fi. The transfer will begin when the camera is switched on and is within the range of your specified network. The uploaded photos will be organized by date inside a specified folder.

How is it set up? First, the card needs to be activated. To do that, install a small included piece of software called Eye-Fi Manager on your computer and register the card with with Eye-Fi's server. Next set up the details of your wireless network, providing security details if appropriate (it supports WEP, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK). Then, choose a folder on your computer where the photos are to be stored. That's about it. It is quite simple.

Note: A USB memory card reader is included in the package to help with the set up. The memory card requires an Internet connection for setup and a wireless router with DHCP enabled for wireless transfers. It has a range of 90+ feet outdoors and 45+ feet indoors. It uploads only JPEG photos, not videos. It also does not automatically delete the photos it has uploaded.

• Eye-Fi Share has all the functionality of Eye-Fi Home plus the WebShare service - the uploading of photos to a photo sharing or social networking web site. This service is secure and encrypted, so the photos remain are safe and private. Over 20 web sites are supported including flickr, photobucket, Picasa, SmugMug, snapfish and more (see below). All you need to do is to provide your account login details of the web site in Eye-Fi Manager, and Eye-Fi Share does the rest, quietly moving your photos from your camera to your favourite web site!
• Eye-Fi Explore has all the above functionality of Eye-Fi Share, plus the geotagging of photos and Wayport Wi-Fi Hotspot Access at over 10,000 locations for 1 year. Using hotspot access means that even if you are a long way from home (and your wireless router), you can still have your photos automatically uploaded to your web site and your computer. It is also possible to set up SMS or email messages to inform you of the beginning and end of your upload using Wayport Wi-Fi hotspot access. It costs $19 per year to renew hotspot access after the first year. This card is great for those who are always on the move.
