Measuring blood pressure at home regularly with a home blood pressure monitor is a good way to check if you really have high blood pressure. This is because some people show higher readings when they see the doctor but normal readings when measured at home. There are also others who show the reverse: normal readings at the doctor's office but higher readings elsewhere.

What is it? The HEM-790IT is a digital automatic home blood pressure monitor consisting of an auto-inflate upper arm cuff, digital display unit and Omron Health Management Software. All you have to do is to put on the arm cuff, press the start button, and within seconds your systolic and diastolic blood pressures and your pulse are displayed. It is really simple.
What are its features?

Note: There are two other Omron home blood pressure monitors that you may want to consider.
The first one is Omron HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor. It uses a wrist cuff (instead of an upper arm cuff) to measure blood pressure. It is thus suitable for individuals with a larger than average sized arm. Functionality wise, it is almost identical to the HEM-790IT, except that it is designed for 1 user with 100 sets of values recorded.
The second one is the new Omron Elite 7300W Womens Avanced Blood Pressure Monitor. It uses an upper arm cuff to measure blood pressure. However the units comes with 2 cuffs of different sizes: standard (9- to 13-inch) and large (13- to 17-inch). Women with smaller arm sizes can make use of the smaller cuff for a better fit. Functionally it is quite similar to the other two monitors mentioned on this page, though it does not have the data download facility. It however comes with 2 medication reminder alarms. It has an ultra-thin profile and is thus highly portable, perfect when travelling.
