Unlike Oral B toothbrushes (which employ advanced electric rotary technology), Sonicare toothbrushes employ a combination of scrubbing and sonic technology to do the cleaning. The main cleaning action of a Sonicare toothbrush is via the scrubbing action of the toothbrush bristles. However, the secondary cleaning action is via the high frequency vibrations of the toothbrush bristles which generate fluid forces capable of significantly disrupting plaques beyond the immediate contact area that the bristles actually touch.

Ultreo is a relatively new company based in Redmond, WA. Based on research conducted at the University of Washington, it claims to have produced a better electric toothbrush by combining sonic bristle action and ultrasound waveguide technology with the end result being a deeper and a faster clean.

Conclusion
It seems to us that the three products are really neck and neck in their effectiveness in keeping our teeth clean. In our view they represent the best of what is available in the premium toothbrush market at this moment (Feb 2008). If you prefer oscillating/pulsating rotary technology, then the Oral B Triumph 9900 fits the bill. If you want to use the unusual yet well established sonic technology, maybe you could go for the Philips Sonicare FlexCare. If you want to try out the brand new ultrasound waveguide technology, go for the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush. Personally we prefer the Oral B Triumph 9900 but I guess it is really down to your own personal preference, perception and judgement that will ultimately help you decide which one is right for you.
When you have a set of healthy teeth, you will feel much better about yourself and have less worries about costly dental problems (think dental fillings, root canal, dental crowns etc).
